Greetings from Ohio. I just got back from a trip to Maine, and noticed that my 1999 R1100RT Speedometer calibration is off. When you come up to one of those radar "Your Speed is ____", my speedometer is always off. When I'm clocking 70, I'm apparently really only going about 65. My buddy's Harley confirms my suspicion. My last RT was the same way. I'm wondering if those shims that move the speedo sensor in or out have anything to do with that? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Keith

This sensor works on digital pulses so moving it will not change the speed. If you go too far away it will just stop working.

I have had 2 BMW's, 1 Concours14, 3 Honda's, and an HD. They all seem to indicate 2 to 5 MPG on the fast side. I think it is a Police speed (Gov't) suggestion to the manufactures. If the manufactures wanted to they could get it exact.

Let see, come to think of it my BMW car, Toyota car, and Toyota Truck indicate a couple miles on the fast side too.

Hmmmmmmm........

If your speedo/odo is gear driven by the front wheel as it is on my '04 R1150RT, it would not be easily adjustable. Your experience is pretty much the same as all us non-authority RT owners. Just get used to it or get a GPS.

99% of speedo's are optimistic regardless of the make and type of vehicle. Just correct it in your head.

It's a feature. You will find that the odometer is closer to the truth.

What some people do is get a small Sigma bicycle speedometer. I've done that, and it is gnat's ass accurate and a cheap fix.

My odometer is 1 mile "fast" every 39 miles ridden, which is going to be a bad thing for resale value -- if I ever sell it. :whistle
