Hello,
My odometer has quit working on my K75 which is a real pain as it also doubles as my "fuel gauge."

Everything else works, the tach, the speedo, but not the odometer. I've read the pages about speedo repair on IBMW and none of them mention problems with the Odometer. I think there is a small electric motor that moves the speedo needle. Is there also a small electric motor that turns the odometer? Is it possible to find a replacement for this motor?

Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks for the help!

Look on the IBMWR tech pages, it can be done. Also buy a manual. Electric motor?!?! ;-))

I have no expertise in this, but have you tried Google or Ask Jeeves and punch in "BMW Spedometer Repair"and see what you get? Hope this helps.

Are you talking odometer or trip odometer, I wonder? My trip meter went goofy about 70k ago. It works, but the numbers no longer line up, and the reset doesn't work. It is mechanical. Tried lining up the numbers, but on first ride it went off again. Was still in warranty, but can no longer remember why I didn't bother to bring it in; probably thought a new one would do the same and then I'd have incorrect reading on the overal odo.
In the meantime, the red warning light has never failed to keep me in fuel.

The problem isn't with a motor - it's the gears that drive the digits on the odometer. One of them has stripped.

It would be possible to repair it IF the gears were available - but they're not. The only source I know of is another used speedometer (you do see them on the IBMWR marketplace and Ebay-Motors once in a while.)

It might be possible someplace like PaloAlto Speedometer may have a source of the gears.

Replacing them is a delicate fiddly job.. if you're not up to it, I'd suggest looking for a pro.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll try taking apart the gauges tis weekend and see if I cant tell if the gears on the odometer are stripped or not.
If they are I guess I"ll be hunting for a set of gauges.

Or look in your MOA mag - I saw Palo Alto Speedometer has their usual ad. Be worth a call to them..
