I have not seen a new K1200LT on the showroom floor for months. I have not heard any news of a new K1200LT. Has the current K1200LT reached end of life and we have not been officially told.

I remember the 04 K1200GT becoming scarce on the showroom floor. That was because they were selling them without making more because a K1200GT redesign was coming out. Is that what is happening with the K1200LT, selling off inventory in preparation of new version coming out soon?

There's one sitting on the floor at my dealer -- it's been there for months. My dealer really wanted me to buy that bike and it looked plenty comfortable, but I had the feeling that it would be among the last production years. Only one color offering (black) and a limited number of available accessories tells me they'll be discontinued or replaced soon -- but by what? An inline 4 LT? A wedge LT? A boxer LT? What should it / could it be?

I'd like to see an LT based on the RT frame/chassis. Perhaps a liquid-cooled boxer punched out to 1400cc with a counter-balanced motor for smoothness and a torque curve that gives you plenty of ommph for towing and starting loaded and two-up on hilly terrain. And I'd like a wet clutch. And an integrated Nav, intercom, and sound system. And I want it to weigh no more than my current RT. :laugh

There was a concept pic with a six cylinder horizontal inline design... I don't think they have deleted it from the lineup...just a major redesign coming as mentioned. Maybe just the Wedge motor in it?

Adventure BMW in Chesapeake, VA has a black one on the floor. Dealer said this is the last year for that model

The final end of the brick design??

It has been around for a long time......

An updated alternative to the Goldwing would seem to be a logical move.

Recon the KLT is going the way of the Gold Wing's competition and the dinosaurs? Extinct

I could never figure out why the Yamaha Venture, Suzuki Cavalcade, Kawasaki Voyager could not compete. I thought the Venture and Cavalcade were nicer than the Wing and the Voyager was lower cost. I'm not referring to the cruiser based Venture and Voyager of today.

The first generation Yamaha Venture was a great bike. But it never caught on like the wing. :dunno

I found this link on the BMW XPLOR site....an 1850 in-line transverse mounted 6 cyl?

http://www.motorradonline.de/news/neu--bmw-k-1850-lt.252721.htm#

Translated from the magazine: BMW builds six-cylinder?

BMW and the inline six - that's a glorious history of Bavaria, which created a whole range of the dynamic and sophisticated engines. In many variants of two until 3.5 liters of displacement with capacities ranging from approximately 120 to over 300 hp. But always only for cars and with the appropriate proportions.

I recently looked at an 09 LT as well. Just like others have said the dealer really wanted to sell it. I asked him also why there was no 1300LT in the line up adn why only 1 color available for the 09. He told me that they are dropping the current LT format and headed toward a major redesign to compete directly against the Goldwing. I was told it is supposed to be an 1800. So I would think the post from TexanRT is not far off.

A thread at the BMW SportTouring forum discussing LT rumors -- one fellow says his dealer told him the K1600LT will be launched at the NEC Motorcycle Show in November. We'll have to wait a couple of months to find out if it's true.

I was told by a corporate guy that there will not be an LT in the '11 lineup, but the '12 will be a new 1800 flat 6 (like Goldwing) and a cross between the LT and the GT. This was heard about 3 weeks ago from a recent meeting.

It's been my experience that the most desirable examples of any BMW bike model are the years toward the end of the production run. More often than not, the first year or two of a brand new design has issues. It was that way with the '83 and '84 K-bikes, the first Oilheads, the first F650's (the "real" ones) and with the 1200cc Wedge motor bikes. With the latter, they decided they needed to completely re-engineer that whole design. Comes down to are you an early adopter who wants the next new thing enough to be patient with whatever sorting out may be required?

I guess I should have kept my 82 CBX. I'd be back in style again...

Last week, Lone Star BMW/Triumph had one new black K-LT. The first in months. It was close in price to the K-GT.

"The first generation Yamaha Venture was a great bike. But it never caught on like the wing."

I rode an 83 Venture at Aspencade East. I was delighted with it. I told them it sounded like a "small block" with glass pacs - they were not delighted. I think they wanted me to say that it was as smooth and quiet as a GW but faster.
