I am preparing to romove an R90 transmission that needs to be rebuilt/repaired. It currently slips out of third gear or third gear will not engage at all.

I live in central California.

1. Any shop recomendations that are experts with this transmission?

2. Are there used transmissions on the market?

i live in boston so no help on capable mechanics in california, however check ebay for parts if you feel safe doing so as i saw a 1976 r90 transmission up for bid as well as numerous internal gearbox/clutch parts. you didn't mention the year of your bike, but just be aware that a 1974 r90 has a kick start unlike the following model years. good luck

I have bought used parts off of e-bay and IBMWR. Sometimes you can hook a bargain on e-bay but, some of the sellers are NOT BMW people. I have never been hosed by a BMW enthusiast. Can't say the same for e-bay.

The R90 is a 1976. I see a '79 R65 transmission on EBay that says it will fit an R90. Is there a resource that will tell me if this is compatible?

I agree with purchasing from BMW enthusiasts if possible.
