View Full Version : Sidecar on my R1150R?

I used to have a R60/6 with a Jupiter sidecar attached (W/the Dauntless subframe) but sold the rig to get my current '03 R1150R. My daughter would really like me to get another sidecar, mostly for around town style riding. I used to take the hack off the /6 (I got pretty good at it, under 10 minutes) for longer rides. Yes, I know a leading link setup would be better, but the stock forks were just fine while staying off the interstate.
I don't have room for a second bike/rig. Does anyone have experience mounting a hack on the oilheads? Dauntless sells a very nice $800 subframe, and recommend a $1000 modification to the steering (which I assume is a leading link). Do I really need the steering mod? Any thoughts?

I will say that the EZS rig that was mounted to my wife's '04 R1150R (including a LL front-end) is a dream to drive. However, i don't know if it is the LL that makes the biggest difference or the WIDE tires on the rig.

I've had one rig with stock forks and one just like the one in sdpc2's picture above. If you are just staying around town with it, you could save the money. But if you expect to do any serious miles or vigorous cornering, you will be happier with less trail than the stock front end.
Enjoy!
