View Full Version : Lube Centerstand and Sidestand
I have an 85 K100 with a centerstand that needs lubrication. I have been crawling around looking for a zirc fitting or some other means of injecting grease but so far I'm unable to find any.
Is the best practice for lubing the centerstand to unbolt it, lube, and reassemble or is there a fitting and I just don't see it?
The side stand on my R80 has a grease fitting. Somehow I could have sworn the K bike had one, too, but so far nothing.

I don't recall any zirks on any of mine, '85 - present. I just gooped some in the gap and work it in. I don't recall ever getting the center stands off, either. Lately, I have been relatively lazy and just use a squirt of WD-40 or similar when one stand or another does not retract on its own as fast as I think it should. I figure this can't do any harm since this is not a part that is going to wear out due to poor lubrication, like a bearing or something.

I had a 87 and I don't recall any grease fitting. Be sure and check the centerstand pivot bolts, I had one shear. Luckily the bike did not fall. While I was at it, I would also grease the clutch arm roller bearing.

Hi, On my k75 -k100 both 87, there are small holes where the stand pivots , I picked up one of the points that go on a grease gun and pump it in there , works like a charm.

My K75's and (when I had them) '95 and '96 K1100LT's had zerk fittings to grease the sidestand and the centerstand. I once greased the '96 K1100LT centerstand and could not easily remove the grease gun from the zerk fitting. On one of the tries the zerk wallowed out the small threaded hole in the centerstand. That was the last time that part of the stand was greased!

My 85 K100 has grease zerks on the center stand but none for the side stand. I can't remember if I installed these or if they where on the bike when I bought it. The side stand does have a small hole in it that you can force grease in like Yankeeone stated.

I seem to remember that the original centerstand on my K100RT did not have zerks. But the replacement centerstand I put on after breaking the original did come with zerks.

I'd suggest disassembly, clean, (insert zerks if you have holes), and grease it up good. Same for side stand. They see lots of dirt and water down there and need a good clean / lube every couple of years.
My '93 K75 had holes in the center stand, but no zerks. Easy to add, makes life easier in future.

Hey, thanks for pointing this out, guys---I bet these often get overlooked in the usual maintenance more often than not:thumb
