View Full Version : Easy Electical Connection on RT?

I will be installing an alarm on my '04 RT and need to connect the positive and negative leads to an unswitched power source. The obvious connection points are the battery terminals, but battery access requires fairing removal. Are there easier places to find the proper connections?
Just in case, I already purchased a T-25 bit for my portable drill.;)

On my 02RT the fuse box is under the seat. It has both switched and non switched power in it. Perhaps that would work?

Thanks for the reply, Ben! Since I don't have a wiring schematic, I got my VOM to start searching for the appropriate location in the fuse box.
While taking one last look at the battery, I noticed a rubber cover with a big "+" on it. The cover is located under the right rear of the tank. A closer look revealed the cover was for a large T-30 bolt that screwed into a metal plate that, in turn, apparently was connected to the positive terminal of the battery. My VOM showed 12+ Volts between this bolt and some frame grounds, so I found my easy connection point.:)
I should note that this connection is not fused through the bike. Fortunately, the hot lead for my new alarm does include a fuse, so I didn't have to add one.

What kind of alarm are you installing?

It's a Nady MA-300P (with pager):

Since I installed it only yesterday, it's too early to tell how effective it is. I'm hoping I never have to find out, one way or the other!;)

I just installed my Scorpio SR-i500 alarm this morning. I will wait to have the disabler feature installed when I have my 6k done. I was worried about the ABS with one connection hooking up to the tail light. But when I took her out for a test ride the ABS test light went off. So now I have the following upgrades on my R1150RTL:
1. BMW top case
2. Carbon fiber tank protector
3. Rear wheel plug
4. Mirror protection wires???? (The aircraft wire used to keep your mirrors from hitting the ground.)
5. Scorpio Alarm
6. Throttlemeister heavy cruise control bar ends.
next on my list
1. larger case lids
2. battery charger
3. corbin heated seat.
4. satellite radio with fm modulator
