Anyone ever used it? How was your experience?

I've had for a couple years now and thankfully not needed to use it, but I'm wondering if it'll be "there" for me if I need it.

Thanks - BrianK

I called for a dead battery my Airhead. I young kid came, he wanted to jump me with a large charging system. I sent him away and carried the battery to a near by Victory dealership. They we great, charged for free.

I just did not trust him to jump my old 84 with a charging system design for a much large system.

My understanding is that your bike will only draw with it needs to get started. The "much large system" is not pushing the current, it's simply a source for current when you starter needs it.

We have used the MOA plan twice when our K1200LT suffered the dreaded rear drive failure. Both times were in the middle of nowhere which made it more difficult for the roadside assistance people to find a towing company to come and carry us to the nearest dealer. In both cases, the dealers were several hours distant. All things considered, in view of our locations, we were satisfied with the service provided.

It's completely safe to jump **IF** the engine is off.

I used it once. My call was answered promptly (by a towing agency) on a Saturday afternoon. A large flatbed tow truck, from the local company, arrived in about 30 minutes. The driver was a biker, he had the correct straps, and we had the bike secured in no time.
There was no money issue - I got the first 100 miles free, and then paid something like $4 a mile for the additional 40 miles.
I'm sure others have had less than happy tows - luck of the draw! I feel it's worth the cost

Used it once a couple of years back. Stranded in the middle of nowhere with a failed Hall effect sensor. Called the number and got patched through to India. No joy at all. I ended up finding a tow truck on my own, barely missed getting blown over in a tornado on the way into town. The only upside was that the Indian girl gave me a claim number and I was able to recover $200 of my expenses.

Would I pay for it again? No, the Anonymous Book has been much more helpful.

called once, dead fuel pump. Poor cell connection, that was not the services fault, but.. I made it clear I had a bad connection and it might drop and any second and didn't seem to make any attempt to expedite the call, asked a million questions until the cell dropped. Called back, different person, same thing happened. After once more I abandoned ship and called a friend... I don't think I'd do it again...

I have been putting it off. Had a final drive failure at speed. Was only 15 miles from home but it cost $145 just for the tow. Live and learn. And it was my second final drive failure in 6 months!

Airhead final drives are just about bulletproof. What has failed twice?

#1 at about 44,000 miles, a small ring (2 to 2.5 inches in diameter): half the bearings were powderized.

#2 at about 48,000 miles, a large ring about 7" in diameter. Many ball bearings had shredded. Another half a mile and it would have cost another $4-500 no doubt.

#3 is in process. The rear end is leaking (as in #1) and we are going to open it tomorrow for an inspection.

Maybe "BMW MOA Platinum Club Roadside Assistance" should not be in the topic
"Airheads"

The "dead fuel pump" and "Final Drive Failures" were not on Airheads.

I used it a couple of weeks ago. The nice lady I talked to was very helpful. She had problems finding a company to tow my bike however. She left me on hold for a bit, checking with me now and then. Finally she offered to call me back after she found someone.

The closest company she could get to do the job couldn't come out for over 8 hours and I was supposed to stay with my bike until they got there. The company was located about 70 miles away!!!

I happened to break down at a turkey farm. There's 4 or 5 turkey barns on both sides of the highway.

Turkeys smell bad.

I really didn't want to sit there having thousands of turkey's watching me all day. That's too creepy.

Finally the farmer came along and offered to put my bike on a trailer and take me the whole 2 miles back to my house. The nice lady had given me the tow company's number, so I called them and made arrangements for them to come to my house the following Monday to take the bike to the shop.

So the tow company got out home Monday morning. We loaded the K onto his flat bed and hauled it to the shop, about 20 miles away. All I had to do was sign my name and it was done.

I know for a fact that AAA will only pay for the first 10 miles or so. There is NOTHING within a 10 mile radius of my house as far as car repairs go, much less motorcycles.

I don't plan the Plan for the delay, so I was satisfied. But I wonder how happy I would have been sitting there for 8 hours? Made me wonder how bad it would be if I was out West in the Middle of Nowhere?
