I have a 2002 GS Adventure. After a long trip (6,000 miles in a week with alot of interstate miles) I began noticing a "ping". I was told that there was a "white" carbon build-up, probably due to the many interstate miles using high-test. After having the heads cleaned and another 2,500 miles later (mainly country roads at high rpm using regular unleaded) the ping is back. Has anyone else had problems with carbon build-up on their Adventure? I love the bike and with only 24,000 miles I hope to love it for many more years. I just can't afford to have my cylinder heads cleaned every 2,500 miles (or 25,000 miles for that matter).

Any help would be ummm helpful.
Thanks,
Dan

This issue has been discussed at length. If you do a search over at http://www.advrider.com you will find many many words devoted to this subject. Yes, this is a common problem amongst oilheads.

Dan,
I'm sure if you do a search, you will find many owners have used Chevron Techron with good results. This (gasoline) additive is very effective at removing carbon deposits, when used regularly.

Thanks for the tips. I spent quite some time on "advrider". Lots of good stuff on there. I'm also searching for a Chevron station. I'd be thrilled if it were that easy.

Also, in the back of my mind, I remember reading something about the Adventure model having a switch that would enable the bike to run on a lower octane if needed. I wonder if that could be in the wrong position, from the factory, causing my problems.

Try Advance auto parts or Murray's or one of the big chains near you. That's where I find Tekron Fuel SYSTEM,not fuel injection cleaner.
