Looking to buy a used transmission for a 1976 60/6. I have been looking at ibmwr.org. I have recieved conflicting information from reliable sources regarding what model years will fit this bike. Some say upto 1985 some say 1979.
Thanks

Definitely not up to 1985...nothing after 1981 will be anything close to a direct bolt-on. I would think anything up to 1980, but not sure about clutch push rods and the clutch lever posts on the backside of the tranny.

I think 1980. The 1981 bikes came with a light (no) flywheel and different clutch and I think the trans input shaft was a different length, shorter by 5mm...
BTW, if you change the input shaft, I believe you can use the later trans 1981 on...
But you can also AskOak@aol.com
And you might join http://airheads.org/ if you are interested in Airheads.

Thanks. I found a rebuilt one out of a '78. But $650 seems high. I hope to find a used one around $400.

$250 is really just "noise" on the data of what these things cost in parts and time. Depending on who rebuilt it and how, that may be a bargain.

I think the $650 number is somewhat near what Matt Parkhouse was asking to rebuild someone else's R65 tranny...from memory... I agree that the number is about right.
