View Full Version : spark plug wires, auto parts store style, what do i need?

need a set of spark plug wires pronto for my 88 r100gs. want to do the auto zone route/auto parts store route. what type wire and caps do i look for ohms, resistance, that sort of thing. sorry, but i'm a plug wire dummy.

You don't want any resistance in the wire. You need to let the plug cap control the resistance in the path. It would seem to me that stranded copper wire would be best rather than a solid copper core. If it's solid, it would be more easy to break. Once broken, the wire is no good. A stranded wire will flex better and if a strand or two breaks, you still have the remainder of the wire.

5k(thousand) ohms resistance on the cap, try some local brand x bike shops...

Try getting the red or yellow wires. It seems to upset the puristas.

I have been using a leftover set of V8 solid core accel wires from the 80's on most of my builds. The resistor caps you can get from any bike shop or Dennis Kirk.

The NGK caps are excellent; they really keep water out plus they're easier on the eyes than either of the stock BMW types.
