Hi all. New member here. Just got a 2004 R1150R. So far so good. I have a question. If I put in a cat. eliminator will I lose some bottom end. As is, the bike runs fine and no surging, but I just don't think it's needed. I'll put a K&N in too. Thanks in advance. More questions to follow.

Thanks for the reply. I found all kinds of good info but nothing really specific to weather I'll lose some bottom end without the cat.

I installed a Remus exhaust 6 years ago on my 94 RS using the stock header, eliminating the cat. Other than a nice exhaust note, and an ~8 lb loss in weight, never noticed any change in performance. I don't think removing your cat will impact your performance in any way. No problem passing emissions either.

Why do you want the cat to go away?

Doug,
I doubt you'll notice any loss of bottom end torque without the Cat. I have a full Staintune system on my R1100 and it replaces the cat with an expansion chamber. Keeps the exhaust system volume about the same as stock.
Save the money you plan on spending on the K&N. It won't help performance and it WILL allow more dirt into your engine. :brow

When I built the R11HR, I was oblivious to just how badly I was foo'ing the air/fuel:flow situation. I don't think you can materally change the performance without changing all three aspects: intake flow, exhaust flow & fuel injection profile. A certified mechanic I trust looked at the HR & said "no wonder you're running 18 to 21:1 lean, look at how much less impedence the air flow has, both in & out". So, regardless of Techlusion or other answers of addressing fuel profile, adjusting one or two legs of the triangle requires thinking through the implications on the other one or two legs. About the time I think I'm breathing air, a tap on my shoulder gives reference to where my head still is.... May you breathe easier than me... <<<)))
P.S. I'm building a "pulse strecher" for the injectors to address the WAY over lean situation. It should be up & ok by Lima.

Yeah, all of the neigborhood cats are using my flowerbeds.
I just installed a Staintune on my RT so maybe that will cure
my problem.
