Where could I find the history of our bags by year, etc?
Also, what can fit on diff bikes, etc.
Like can the 3rd gen bags (hard 80's bmw/abs-grab-ons, etc) fit on my /7?
I have the era correct bags, but would like the newer ones (80's).

The newer bags will fit most of the the older mounts if you remove the seatbelt style tab from the frame. The ones that they wil not fit are some of the Krauser cast mounts that do not have enough roundness of the bar where the clamp attaches. If you have that style, you could probably file it rounder then paint it.

You can also go the other way as most of te 1980's style mounts have mounting places for the tabs so that you can put on the older style bags.

The best way to find out for yours would be to remove the tabs and then try a friends bags to see if they fit.

Duane Ausherman has a detailed description of many bags, but probably not all.

Here's a link to his site.

I did not see an email link anywhere there for Duane, so maybe someone could forward this to him.

I noticed in the "BMW" section that he wrote he had never seen a white bag with a BMW roundel on it. My Motorsport came with a set, and I have been informed that the 150 European Motorsports supposedly all came with white bags. I have a few photos of some of them. [Edit: On searching, I find that I don't have photos of others. The one I have from the UK has black bags. I'll look some more.]

[Edit: OK, after a thorough search on the Motorsport registry website, I find at least a dozen bikes with white bags and photos of about five. There are four variants. One is all white with BMW roundels like mine. A second is the same with a black circumferential trim strip at the seal. Third is the red Krauser roundel and the surprising fourth one has no roundel or a recess for one.]

I have also come across (OK, bought) a set of white Krausers in the same style, but with red "Krauser" roundels in place of the BMW ones. The other difference between these two sets is that the Krausers have black vinyl trim strips running around the circumference of the openings while the original bags on my bike have white ones. Otherwise, both are cast in white plastic and seem to be identical to all the early (smaller) black ones except for color.

A bump to include one of the pictures I found ...

[Edit: No linking. OK, it's not a registration site. Go check them out on your own, if it matters.]

Stating the obvious: You are talking up to 1984, right? Monoshock frames share K-brick luggage.

Yes.
I'm reasonably certain the '85 (monolevers) is the big change year for the bags/mounts.
So the 81-84 bags should work on my 77 w/correct mounts.

Noticed your bikes and brought back some happy memories from my new '82R100RT in Oct/81.
Loved that bike, use to smoke behind the w/shield....could actually lite a cig w/zippo at 60-70 and then back up to cruising at 80-90. Did that all the time....Now I wonder how many forest fires I started...LOL
