Hey all-
I have just received my carb springs from Tony. They look great but my question about them is a little embarasing. I have a 1985 R80 monoshock and I'm wondering if I have to remove the carb to install the new throttle spring. Not totally remove from bike but enough so I can access back of carb..... or do most people just install the springs with the carbs in place? Any insight would help. Thanks in advance.

Lay on the ground with a small flashlight and a pair of (ideally) curved needle nose pliers and pay attention to the orientation of the "long" spring side and the "short" side of the springs and install in that same orientation. No need to remove anything other than the old springs. Save 'em in case you don't like the EZ pulls. I love mine.

I installed mine on an R100M and an R75/5 from below with the carbs in place -- but I did so because I'm very familiar with the brackets and the hooking points.

If you are unfamiliar, you'll want to see exactly where the hooks on the old springs come out, and be able to visually verify that the new hooks went back in the right place and fully seated. One option would be to loosen the hose clamps on the air tubes and rotate the carbs to bring the springs into better view (after having dumped the float bowls to prevent fuel flow out of the overflow tube or other undesired places), but you stand a good chance of putting a bend in the cables where they enter their ferrules, screwing up smooth cable operation.

Given how easy it is to release the carbs and then just turn them around while avoiding over-stressing the cables and/or fuel hose, that's how I'd do it if I had any question about whether I could do the job right from below.

Hey all-
To follow up on my carb springs- installed them yesterday with the carbs still on the bike. I used my dentist pick that is bent at a right angle on one end. Easy Peasy. I just needed the right view so I could see how they fit in their little notches on the top of the throttle arm. Thanks again to all who replied. BTW- love them new springs. I can ride again pain free.

Excuse my ignorance, where does one purchase E Z Pull springs? My R75/5 could use a set
