Oddly enough, you might try a local clock repair shop or, believe it or not, a sewing machine repair shop before you ship it off. I had a car clock repaired by a local sewing machine repairman. $5. Those guys are pretty creative, and possibly less expensive.

Some opinions seems to be moving away from using Palo Alto. Other possibilities in include North Hollywood Speedometer and Overseas Speedometer.

After looking at all options, I trashed mine and installed a new VDO - about $30 bucks.
