I was wondering, besides the fairing and handlebars what is the difference between the two? Does the RS or S for that matter have more power than an RT? Are they faster? I've been told the RS loves to burn up the road.I would think the RT would love to burn up the road as well.any opinions from those that have or have had both?

I have both. Under the skin they are the same bike, for a given year.

My R100RT has the exact same specs as the R100RS (taken directly from the owner's manual). Only difference I can tell is the fairing and high bars instead of low bars. I reviewed some pics and the footpeg position appears the same as well. I ride the 100 like a sportbike, and it behaves as such. Much more responsive, confident and fun in a slightly sporty riding position than an upright touring position. Mine eats km's for breakfast and miles for dinner. Did 940 km in 1 day a couple of weeks ago, and 2600 km over the 4 days of riding. The bike was willing to do more, I got a bit tired.;)

for each year of production, they should be the same power, brakes and performance features. that being said, the "older bikes (76-80)" were more powerful (70 vs 60 hp for the later models) but the newer bikes feature better brakes and suspension/chassis refinements (IMO).

Exact same bikes and even some parts of the fairings are the same.
Both can handle pretty much identical as well. Just depends on how you want to ride it.

77 and 78 rs's have some differances than the rt's , 79 when the rt's came out they were no real differances....

Final drive gearing sometimes varied between the two models in the late 70's-early 80's.
2.91's seemed most common on the RS's (with some having 3.00's).
I've seen more RT's with 3.00's, with some of them having the 2.91 gears.
