Are you supposed able to adjust the air flow to the rider using these vents? TIA...:)

There's no adjustment, not for volume nor for direction. There doesn't seem to be much flow, either, since I couldn't feel much of a breeze from them while at 70 mph. I got the impression they're to reduce backpressure.

What you've just read is Exhibit A in why i'll keep my R1100RT and not upgrade to the 1150.
The 1100 allows you to reach into the fairing area and change the flow of air from the oil cooler from under your arms to over the hands. Maybe it's all in my head but direct comparison on the same ride proved to me that the air warmed by passing over the oil cooler helps keep the fingers a little warmer.
They seem to have deleted that feature when the 1150 came out. Maybe it'll be back with the 1200?? (not bloody likely, I know, but I can dream, can't I)

Right
The 1100 RT had adjustable vents that control the direction of the airflow. I also found the 02' 1150RT has vents installed around the oil cooler that are not present on the '04 model. This may be due to the big hooters that were installed in the '04.
I started looking at the different configurations when it started to get cold last year. I rode until the middle of December in Northern Indiana and South Michhigan. It seems the cold air and rain pass through the vents and seems to track along the tank anf then puddle in the riders crotch area. The lack of speaker boxes or anything else to block airflow through the speakers grates may also contribute to this condition.
My future fix is to add speakers and relocate the horns so I can retrofit the early 1150 vent ducts to my '04.
After I fix the rough idle/hard start problem
FWIW MHO :dunno :dunno
A bettter reason to get the 1150 instead of the 1100 which I looked at when i purchased my '04 was to get the extra gear.
