Hello everyone,

I'm new to this board and new to Beemers. I've Had various bikes for the last 30 yrs so I'm not new to motorcycles. Found a low mile (3400mi.) 2000 R1100RS so I figured I'd give a boxer a try.

Been reading up on the diferrent exhausts and I'm leaning towards the Staintunes and the Remus. Laser also seems to make a fair product. My problem is I have not seen any except on the web. Can anyone enlighten me on build quaility, sound, repacking, etc?

It also seems the techlusion is the way to go verse the chip. I have not seen on any boards where people don't like the techlusion.
I'm a wrencher so I have no problem tearing into anything.

Any thoughts?:idea

Thanks, Bruce

Tagging along on this thread. My 94 RS has a recently developed a loose baffle in the muffler that sounds like rocks rattling in a tin can. I'd also like to know what the weight of these mufflers is compared to the stock one.

From what I've seen no one matches the quality of the Staintune exhaust systems & they never need repacking. You will pay more then for a comparable Remus or Lazer but they will look & sound great for years to come. FIM develops their chips specifically for the Staintunes & they work well from my experience. I sell Staintune, Remus & other exhausts but my Duc, Aprilia & my wife's R11RS all have Staintunes.

Personally, I feel that the R1100RS have plenty of power to get yourself in trouble, better investment of your money would be shocks, set-up properly, nicers shocks would allow you to control your bike better, accelerate harder through corners, brake later into corners and more comfort for the long rides.
If I ever upgrade my exhaust on my RS, it would be replaced with a GSXR muffler and some home made cat-eliminator that would cost less than a new rear tire.

I agree, the exhaust is not one of the best bang for your buck mods on the RS. The power gains with most of the aftermarket mufflers is marginal at best. The greatest advantage most of them offer is shedding a few pounds of the bike.

I all ready have Ohlins shocks and agree that they are a vast improvement over the originals (especially worn out ones). That would be my reccomendation also for a first place to spend $$ on the RS. Next would be a better seat if you plan to ride very far.

I would not have considered replacing my muffler if it had not been for the broken baffle rattling around in it. The original unit new is ovewr $1400 Cdn, so I figure I may as well go for the weight savings of an aftermarket system. I am also open to replacing it with a used original if I can find a non cat/con - non O2 sensor one like my original.

I have a '94 R1100RS and I put a Remus sports exhaust on it 6 years ago. Sounds great, weights less than stock and eliminated the cat. Price is significantly lower that Staintune, but the Staintune looks a little better. The Remus comes with a lifetime warranty and never needs repaced - check out the Maxmoto web site for options.

I installed a Techlusion R259 this week end. Major improvement in throttle repsonse. I could only put a few miles on due to rain, but my inital impression is that no $250 investment will yield a big a performance boost as the R259.

A new exhaust cost significantly more and will not provide any noticible performance improvement - but the improved sound over the stock system's over mutted thrum is worth the price. I think the R259 may also help take advantage of the reduced back pressure.

Thanks for the input.

A beemer mechanic friend also leans towards the Staintune. They are pricey but I guess you get what you pay for. I just want something with a little bit more sound then the stock pipe and you always need more power...

Also thought about making up a midpipe and going with some other type of muffler but I don't want it looking hacked. Is the GSXR pipe been used on beemers in the past?

Thanks

If I want a loud bike, I will buy a Harley.
