Just purchased a '63 R27. Engine runs fine, but I noticed the rubber/hard plastic drive plate that fits between the transmission output shaft and the drive shaft if missing. The parts fiche and the repair manual I have calls for a spacer to be used. I noticed on one of the parts fiche a 2mm space and I noticed Benchmark Works list both a 2mm and 1mm spacer. Do the spacers go in front of or behind the drive plate? The repair manual also calls for checking the distance between the output shaft coupling flange and the universal shaft to be 30 plus 1.5mm. My question is 30 what?
I have a good bit of experience wrenching oil heads, but this is my first venture into the airhead or vintage bike arena.
I will call Vech tomorrow to order the parts and ask about spaces, but would like to be somewhat knowledgable about the conversation.
Thanks,

gary

I was thinking, as I read your post: "Call Vetch".... but then, that's what you are going to do... He is very very helpful, and quite patient with all those questions, so don't worry about it. Try to buy parts from him, too, 'cuz the advice that he give is free, but the parts are not.....;)

I don't know the R27, but does this diagram help?

Thanks guys for the response.
I basically saw the diagram on one of the on-line parts fiche. It appears to show only one spacer ring, but my repair manual mentions spaces.
Spoke with Richard at Benchmark Works and he said I needed to have two spacers - one on each side of the drive plate.
Order the drive plate, spaces and several other items from Vech's Benchmark Works. They are good people and since this is my second order from Vech on the R27, I getting the feeling he will soon own my house.:doh:doh
