I don't think this is an R100R part, is it?

With the one front disk brake it is a 1992.
They came with the luggage rack that was the same as the R100GS.
I have never seen a cowling like that before.
Or maybe it is from a Mystic ?

All the pics I find of Mystics have the rack and no cowling... a Mystery...

The bike is a '92 R100R, though, as you said. I have a '93 and am interested in finding whatever this tail piece is...

I have a Mystic -- it has a rear cowling, but it is shaped entirely differently -- more tapered to the rear.

The fact that it conforms to the seat so well make me think maybe it's a GS part? since they have a similar seat?

I strongly suspect it's aftermarket -- I can't remember seeing anything like it from BMW in the roughly 30 years I've been playing with beemers.

That makes sense but there's so incredibly little aftermarket for the R100R so I'm thinking maybe aftermarket GS? Still having trouble finding it...

I called my mechanic Yves of Montecristo Moto in Elgin, Quebec he is near Malone, NY a far drive from my home but worth it. He says the first owner of this bike used a K100 cowling that he modified and fitted to this R100R. He doesn't know which year but is sure that it was from a K100.
Here are a few pics,

Ah OK, seeing those pictures it all makes sense now. Very cleverly done.
Back when I had an R and was thinking of doing a cafe-job on it, I was envisioning 'glassing my own tail-cowl that would have closely fit both the seat and the light, but abandoned the idea after pondering just how little experience I have with doing that sort of thing (exactly ZERO).
I think my next idea after that was to find on old GS subframe (since R/Mystic subframes are a bit rarer) and lop off everything that didn't hold the seat up, then modify the tail-light to be just the lens and the LED-unit from Motorrad Elektrik and maybe just enough enclosure to cover the LED unit, the result ing smaller light assembly being mounted right on the back of the seat-latch crossmember. This would have been accompanied by smaller turn signals and some sort of 'hugger' fender I never quite figured out.
But none of this came to fruition by the time I sold the bike.

John - thanks so much for chasing this down! It's a great mod, and it may completely affect what I do with my seat. I've been just a paycheck or two away from buying an S seat & cowl but this may be actually more unique. I'd thought it looked K-ish, very cool indeed; thanks again.
