I have a used one in mind(with cat eliminator) but want better sound not more-what should I expect? Might I consider using the cat eliminator and not the muffler? Thanks!:dunno

I put a ztechnik on my 95R1100R. Even with the end cap in place it is
louder than stock, but not objectionable. I always wear earplugs so I'm probably not a good judge on this point. Without the cat and the big stock muffler I hear an occasional backfire on de-acceleration.
I suggest you buy it, you can always re-sell if you don't like the sound.

Mark

I once rode hundreds of miles with a guy riding an R1150 Adventure--basically the same bike--with that pipe. I thought the sound was just a little too loud and not at all pleasant. Some aftermarket exhausts are a little louder with a good sound, but that Ztechnik sounded junky.

This is, of course, my opinion. However, three riders in our group all had the same opinion.

I just read an ad for one of these for sale new on ebay from BMW of Manhattan and they mention in the ad that they need repacked every 6,200 miles. That doesn't sound very practical ? :dunno

I bought a used Ztecknik muffler and cat eliminator and installed them on my '99 R1100RS. I run mine with the decibel killer installed and I don't find the sound level objectionable. Even more important, my neighbors don't find the sound level objectionable! In fact, above about 50 mph I hear more wind noise than exhaust noise. I did get a good bit of "popping" during deceleration but I installed a Rhinewest Performance chip and that eliminated that and made the bike a litttle more responsive. The guy I bought it from sold it because he thought it was too loud, but he rides and RT and likes to listen to music while he rides. Like someone else said, buy it and try it. If you don't like it put the stock setup back on and sell it.

I put one on my 98 r1100gs a few years back and it made my bike come alive. I enjoy blowing by the big twin hogs, blipping my throttle to down shft and listening to the pipe sing when I wind up and down through the gears. I admit she sounds a little raspy, kinda like Grandma before she has her morning coffee, but when she warms up LOOK OUT, here comes that bad boy. When I see a deer or car just ready to jump out in front of me I just pull in the clutch, give a couple of rapps on the throttle and that seems to catch their attention. The most fun is spotting any biker sitting at a light and I get to pull up behind them , down shifting to get the full impact of a J brake on a 18 wheeler on the unsuspecting party. Bottom line for me is the pipe makes me feel like a bad boy and I can't get enough of that bad boy sound. Most every bike I have owned I have replaced the mufflers with ones that I can still hear after 100mph. Go for the fun factor and don't worry about your neighbors. They already think your a nerd because you ride a BMW and not a Harley. :bolt

Keep smiling

Oh, forgot to mention that all the popping, backfiring and other unspeakable noise's made when letting off the throttle takes me back to the 50's and 60's when all my bikes did it.
