How much trouble would it be to remove the fairng on a '94 R100RT so that it would basically be a R100R? Is there a headlight "bucket" behind the fairing where a regular headlight could be installed? What about front turn signals and the horn? Can those be relocated to an "R" position? Would there be fusing issues? Anything else?

Remove fairing.
Remove headlight shell from fairing mounting frame and let it hang.
Remove fairing mounting frame.
Remove the forks to install headlight ears, turn signal stalks, gaiters(?)
Rewire turnsignals (different).
Unwire the ignition switch and move it into the headlight shell.
Something like that.

Everything Kstoo posted. (Hi Kevin) One more thing is the clock and volt meter. If you have ever seen a R100T you would see the gauges have separate holders. If you want to keep these gauges you will need to mount them some how. As far as the key you could relocate into the cover of the handle bars. I have an R80 with a Hannigan Fairing and that is where my key is located. Kevin:brow

I think the ignition key/switch can also fit in the center of the dash on the handle bars (where the BMW logo is).

Hi Jeff
The spot you are talking about is the same spot I have my key on my R80 with the Hannigan . I really like that placement because the other keys on my ring don't hang down and rub on the gauge cluster. Randy Can I ask the question, why do you want to remove the RT fairing? Just wondering. Good luck. Kevin:brow

Just look--there is indeed the same regular bucket+ headlight as any other model without fairing. Just mounts on the fairing bracket rather than the special "ears" used on nonfairing bikes.

This is exactly why I signed into the forum today. I have a 92 R100RT (couldn't tell could you?) and recently the upper fairing/headlight bracket broke right near the neck. I have removed the fairing sections (fun) and the bracket and now that it is all off I am recalling that I too was considering riding with the fairing off, at least for awhile. I have ridden with a fairing for quite along time so I am not sure if I will like it or not. Anyway I need to get the bracket welded none the less. I was wondering the same thing regarding the conversion. Now that I am where I am I can inspect my steering head bearings sinc eit has been awhile.
Thanks
Mike

What will you do with the fairing? I'm interested if you are looking to unload it, PM me please. I just love the RT and (especially) the RS styles. I have an extra headlight bucket but not a fairing.
Incidentally, I have an R100T...the clock is in a cannister to the left of the speedo, the voltmeter to the right and my key goes in the left side of the headlight. There are some harness changes, but probably less of a concern for you than someone looking to add an RT fairing.
