Something for Mac users

If you use a Mac, run OS X 10.5.x (Leopard), and want to tag your photos with geo-location info or adjust the location in photos that you matched to your GPS track log by simply clicking on a google map then I've got just the thing for you.

It's a GUI that uses google maps to select locations and ExifTool to update your images. Yeah, there are other tools out there that do something similar, but none of them did what I wanted them to do. GeoTag.app is the result.

But doesn't the latest version of iPhoto do similar?

So I was told... after I wrote the app. :doh

I don't have iLife '09 and don't use iPhoto. There are plugins to tag locations for Aperture, but exported images don't contain the locations unless you use "managed" masters and remember to reload exif info after changing metadata. A separate app to update locations before importing into Aperture better fit into my workflow as I was already running photos against my GPS log (when available), anyway.

The app is currently at version 1.4. Built in apple functions are used to grab metadata for speed, but exiftool is still required to update locations as the apple functions insist in mucking with the image when all I want to do is change the metadata. A few bugs have been fixed and now that the latest google map API allows markers to be dragged I added that to the program, too.

Anyone who has an earlier copy may want to grab the latest version.

Manually tagging several hundred shots from a weekend run is kinda overwhelming. I've been using a Sony geotag device instead.

I use my GPs for that. The GPS plus a free program to match tracklog timestamps with image dates. The track log lets me create maps that I can put in web pages along with markers showing where the image was taken. Hi,

Just checking back in on this thread. I'll have to take a look at the software soon. It looks interesting. I've yet to upgrade to iPhoto 09. I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and have spent the last week trying to get my Spyder, my Epson, my Palm etc to talk to my computer. Head.....going......to ......explode.

Anyhow, when the dust settles I'll have to look into this. Thanks.

Make sure you grab the current version. Earlier versions had a bug in the map marker code hidden by a google bug. They fixed their bug and mine manifested itself big time. :laugh
