I recently purchased a 1974 r75/6 with Luftmeister fairing. The fairing mount was attached to the frame with several hose clamps. This didn't seem too stable, so I removed the fairing? I may want to remount it, however. Does anyone know what sort of mounting hardware is supposed to be used when attaching the fairing mount to the frame?

I have a '73 R75/5 with a Windjammer III fairing, a setup very similar to yours. Each of the four tabs on the mounting bracket is held to the frame by two hose clamps. I have found this mounting method to be very secure, AS LONG AS THE HOSE CLAMPS ARE TIGHT. I didn't check them often enough and recently found the upper right pair had dropped off the bracket. Nothing had broken so I repositioned and tightened the clamps. Checking the clamps visually now is part of my pre-ride ritual.

i too have seen a luftmeister fairing attached with hose clamps. with mine i went to home depot and bought some generic heavy duty clamps that seemed a little stronger and have had no problems whatsoever. now, as far as improving the looks of the luftmeister, well...

SInce I got tired of having to replace/ tighten the hose clamps for my Windjammer SS frame mounted fairing I now use several "U" bolts on the part that clamps to the cross piece between the down tubes on the frame, out of sight so not noticeable and seems to give the fairing added stability, plus i find that i don't have to tighten the hose clamps used on the down tubes as often. That's asuming the yours has the same bracket that has three mount points, i.e. one on each down tube plus one that goes to the cross piece.
