bike knocked over last night.................

mine and my friends ducati, anyway, right cylinder head full of oil, gas and rear drive oil all over the place as well...........

anyway, i put it back up on the kickstand hoping the excess oil in the head would drain back into the crankcase, because upon starting it, it smoked like crazy. so aside from refilling the lost fluids and getting a new bar end mirror is there anything else i should be warry of???

Uhhhhh...just be wary of who or what knocked it over.

Mine was knocked over yersterday by......yup, you gessed it...the wife! But I guess it was my fault for parking it about 10 feet behind her truck. I should have expected it since she has already backed over a neighbor's bike and backed into the garage door when it was only half way up. I guess those weren't enough warning signs, so she had to nail the PD.

Luckily a few new scratches were all that tough old bike got...the shiny new pickup she drives didn't fair as well :D

I would take out the oil fill cap. Then smell inside the crankcase. If you get any wiff at all of gas then it's time to change the oil. While laying of it's side gas can run into the cylinders, past the rings and into the oil. And gas is a really lousy lubricant.

i went though it last night and topped up all the fluids, just to make sure.


i can start it and it will run (roughly) until i put it in gear and disengage the clutch. it dies instantly no matter how long of a warm up i give it. its still putting a lot of smoke out the right side and that pipe is pretty oily inside. i was hoping to just burn the oil off, but i'm not sure now. is this gonna be a major project now, i'd sorta like to avoid taking the head off since i'm leaving for a cross country trip in 2 and a half weeks...........

Take the plugs out and crank it for a bit and see what comes out.

You've probably fouled one of the plugs with the oil. It will burn off with some time, but the spark plug is better off being replaced.
Just don't replace the plug immediatly or you will foul the next one.

Don't worry about the stalling and rough running untill it stops smoking and you've installed a new plug.

I managed a tipover and had no engine problems but found that the battery leaked some nasty battery acid on the exhaust pipe near the footpeg -- might want to check that out, washing off with a light hose spray.

well, i got the bike going, drove it about 5 miles, white smoke from burning oil seemed gone by the time i got home. i had to yank the battery and recharge it and i noticed a lot of rust under there. now i'm going to replace the battery and sand and paint the swing arm /rear fram area to try and rust proof it before the big trip.


yeah, my battery leaked too, this was a real vicious knock-over by some vandals, it actually went a little ways down a hill and was completely lying on the cylinder

Rbike sounds like he needs to take his wife's car keys away from her. What is she going to knock over next. By the way where do you live, so I don't park my bike anywhere near where you wife drives!!!:p
