Last winter I took the bike to an independent mechanic to fix my sprag clutch and a shifting problem. He kept the bike for the WHOLE WINTER. When riding this spring, both problems were worse than last fall when they first developed. Then, after returning from the Alabama Chicken Rally, the sprag clutch totally gave up once I parked the bike in the garage. My dealer said he'd try to work on it during the summer between jobs, but with no guarantee when it would be ready.

My wife told me that at my age, who knows how many years I have left riding? "Go find another." Picked up a '98 R100RT, loaded with lots of farkles yesterday.

She's the same woman that told me five years ago that since longevity runs in my family, my last words would be "I never got my beemer." So, five years ago, she said, "Go get one."

I've lost five weeks of riding this summer, but at least I'll be back on the road this weekend. With luck, the K will be back by the end of July for our trip to Nova Scotia.

I hope that it will not be a problem taking the new R ride to the Klassic K Rally.

Correction; I meant to write, it's a '98 R1100RT.

While you're at it, you might want to look for a new mechanic as well.

I too am married to a wonderful woman. 2 weeks ago sitting in the local Timmy's, talking to another Great Plains Beemers member, find out he still has his R100RT for sale. The price is good, and the R80RT is still in progress in the garage. She knows I'm hurting for riding time, looks at me and says "I think you should buy it."
19 years married and she still surprises me sometimes.

My wife gave up on me 35 or 40 years ago. She lets me get whatever I want because she knows I will end up with it one way or another. She doesn't like bikes but she understands that it is necessary for me. I can't do a lot of hard physical things since I broke my back in 1968 and the doctors told me I should not be able to walk (they forgot to tell me). I get the toys I want and she doesn't complain. After 41+ years, I think I will keep her.

I run all my bike purchases past my DSW. Afterall, she is the CFO and she who must be obeyed. She does, however recognize my need to ride and for the past 4 years has indulged my riding habit. I was looking for a new bike this spring and had a deal worked out to trade in the CL for another brand touring bike. She convinced me not to go through with the deal for budgetary reasons. On the bright side, there is an extremely high probability of a new bike for next year.

12 years married and she has done a wonderful job of keeping me riding and us solvent. Like others in this thread, I'm pretty sure she'll keep me.
