Can anyone tell me where I can find aerosol touch-up paint for my silver 2002 1150RT? My dealer says they don't carry any and directed me to www.color-rite.com. (These folks doubt they can help me but can't be certain without BMW's paint name or color code, which I don't have). Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Your paint code is a 3 digit number on a decal under your seat. Forget Color Wrong & give Holt BMW in Athens, Ohio a call. Look in the ON for their number. I doubt they will have it in an aerosol but you can buy refillable spray bottles at most auto body supply shops.

Or take that 3 digit paint code into any quality body shop supply house that carries Glasurit or Dulux paint. It ain't rocket science.

Generally they won't mix less than a half-pint. But a half-pint will be enough to come up with a large aerosol can and enough left over to last the entire MOA a lifetime. All for a little more than ONE 10 cc touch up kit from BMW would cost.

OR, you could just get a half-pint color and a bit of clear coat. The base coat/clear coat type of paints can't be put in an aerosol due to the hardeners involved.

Glasurit hasn't issued formulas for the bike colors in years & the ones they did put out weren't accurate except for a few of the old solid colors that crossed over to the cars. If you get a kit from Holt you can buy the refillable aerosols and spray the base coat & clear coats. Holt is not selling BMW paint kits as the factory hasn't supplied these in quite a while. He matches the colors himself & is the only source in this country for accurate BMW motorcycle color matches using the paint codes.

My Glasurit reference was simply to differentiate quality supply houses from "Joe's real good paint" stores. Based on your username, I'm sure you've got infinitely more knowlege regarding the subject than I, but I've never stumped my local guy yet. Not with Imola Silver for my R60, Granada Red for my '70 2002, not even Aubergine for my Alfa Romeo.
And for me, it's certainly easier to pick up the phone then go pick up my paint 30 mionutes later than to place an order and HOPE it's what I wanted when it arrives 3-4 days later.

Formulas for car colors are readily available & any good supplier can mix them. Imola/Polaris was used on the cars & is a great match for the old Alfa steel wheels. Not the right list to discuss it but I have 3 60's Alfas myself. Getting the correct color for a late model BMW bike is a completely different story since the suppliers have no formulas to mix from. If you order the paint from Holt it will be correct as he takes the time to match the mix to factory painted parts.
