View Full Version : R60/2 headlamp switch help
I turned my headlamp switch/left side, too far to the bottom. Now it's kinda stuck or "stripped" pointing down. I'm afraid to turn it back up as it acts as if it will completely break. I can still get dim light out of it but would like to either salvage what I have or get a replacement.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I'm confused. The headlight switch in the headlight bucket or the high/low switch on the handlebars?
Sorry, the high/low switch on the handlebar.
I was pushing it down for high beam and it went past the point at which it normally stops. Now it's in a position pointing toward the ground but still toggles between low beam and off. I've gently coaxed it back toward the normal position but it feels like it will break. I pulled the switch from it's housing but it appears to be one piece, as opposed to what I had hoped would be the thumb piece itself mounting onto a splined switch or the like. I've looked at parts lists and it appears to be one piece from what I can tell.
I'd rather have low beam than no beam so I'm leaving it alone till I can get some feedback from more experienced owners.
Thanks.

Which kind of switch?
Mine looked like this (sorry, photo sucks as did the digital camera I owned in '98)

Remove one screw and the chrome cover and switch will fall out in your hand. The cover comes of easily (but pay very close attention to how it went together or you may be scratching your head when it comes time to put it back together.
Once the chrome cover is off I think you'll be able to tell how to fix it (assuming it is fixable).
Here's the right side turn signal switch.

Here's the left side switch that I've messed up. It controls the headlight high/low beam.18326
Notice the position is beyond where it normally stops on high beam. It's stuck here but toggles one time between off and low beam.
And here's a view of the switch out of its housing. It appears that it's one piece as the "knob" doesn't want to let go of the switch.

The switch allows me to use the light on low beam as it is. Therefore I'm not necessarily needing an immediate solution but if it can't be fixed, I'd like to be looking for a replacement.
I really appreciate your patience as I've fumbled through trying to describe my problem. A valuable lesson has been learned. A picture is worth a thousand words. Maybe even two thousand of my words.

I think this is what you want if it comes down to a replacement item:
61 31 8 048 193--$55.60--hi/low horn roary switch R50-R69S NOS
but I'm not 100% certain about that as the parts list makes it look like the number should end in 195, not 193. :dunno
Thanks. I will want to replace it with an original switch if possible. I really appreciate your help.
