View Full Version : Spark plug hole thread repair?

I had this over in the Air Head section but only got one response.

This has probably been covered here before, but a search turned up nothing.

I have some suspect spark plug hole threads on my 82 R100. I plan to pull the heads and clean things up, if possible, it might be just carbon?

If a major repair is needed, what is the best option?

Thanks
Rod

Heli-coil. Can be done by most automotive machine shops.

Should cost about 1/2 hour labor plus less than $5 parts.

Google these two things, Time Sert and Back Tap. Have never used either of them, but they were recommended on another thread.

Well it looks like back tap first and then if needed the timesert.

Thanks

The Back-Tap wins! It cleaned up the threads very nicely. It took about 5 minutes per side.
