Was visiting my parents sunday night on my way back to NYC from the Pemi River rally in the White Mountains. Went with my dad to see Pelham 123, he's into action movies and while i generally am not, i do find Denzel Washington to be an all around outstanding actor, so i decided to go.
anyway, there was a fairly involved driving scene which saw a transport using a police car and about 8 RTPs between downton brooklyn and grand central station. the bikes were escorting the car. It was pretty neat to watch but three things stuck out:
1. the riding was SO aggressive at times it looked fake, digitally enhanced if you will, not certain
2. engine sounds that are not generally produced by a boxer were heard loud and clear, even with an aftermarket exhaust (which the bikes did not have) if anyone with more experience with myself can call it, let me know, it wasn't inline 4 revvy, it wasn't ducati or hd, but it certainly wasn't bmw
3. i've NEVER seen a NYPD RTP, curious if they actually have them, their website does not say. there were many NYC inconsistencies in the movie, so this may have just been one of them
that is all.

You're the guy on the spot in NYC, but every photo, video clip, movie, etc. I've ever seen with NYPD motors has the officers on Harleys.

The parks and EnCon use BMWs. I have seen them getting serviced at Max's in Troy.

I noticed an RTP in the recent "Go Daddy" commercial with Danika Patrick.
I though I caught a glimps on the broadcast version but wasn't sure so I had to check out the unedited :brow version on their website.

Are you saying you checked out the unedited version to look at a bike?

I've noticed several examples of BMWs (boxers) in movies that have "better" engine sounds dubbed over them... as for the movie in question- I'd be curious too... that kinda stuff always bothers me.

There's a great article in Bike magazine this month about filming "Mad Max".
All those stunts were real, Hugh Keys-Byrne "Toecutter" did his own riding, and the bike sounds were real (though the accents were dubbed out in America).
By the way, the guy hit by his own bike on the bridge was one of those interviewed.
I would rather watch an old movie with action performed by real stuntmen:thumb, than a new one showcasing the skills of some computer wiz.
:bikes too!

CGI has sounded the death knell of creativity in the action and sci-fi/fantasy genres.
i would rather see a less visually impressive real stunt.
one afternoon i was alone at work and this very old gentleman wandered by my office, he was looking around at the tv studios and whatnot and i asked him if i could help him at all. he was a former disney cinematographer and special effects creator who had worked on movies like the Poseidon Adventure (original) he spent a solid two hours telling me about all the stuff they did for that movie and some of the westerns that involved building crazy props and machines to acheive desired effects.
that is SO much more interesting to me than digital editing, which i LOATHE more than almost anything in the world, especially when i have to do it, which thankfully is rare.
but yes, i'd rather watch a million hours of Mad Max than sit through one viewing of a modern CGI monstrosity.
(occasionally they do get it really spot on with CGI though, see LOTR: Return of the King as an example. i think it generally works much better in fantasy because i've already partially suspended my disbelief.)

NYPD HP has been on Harleys for a long long time...

This is how they filmed Goose's ride back in the days of real stuntmen (and cameramen).
