We will be traveling next week and may spend an evening in Atlanta near the Georgia Dome and the downtown attractions.

What are the safer areas within say, a mile or so of the dome to hotel it for a night in the big city?

Thanks in advance,
Rick

Too close to the truth to be really funny, but........
Just avoid the hours of darkness, keep your head down and mutter some incoherent nonsense to yourself and you'll blend right into the background.
Good luck

hey rick, nice to see you here.

there is an Embassy Suites right near the Dome & World Congress Center. There's a Ruth's Chris Steak House the hotel.

there is also the Omni Hotel at CNN Center.

bring your wallet.

btw, contrary to popular belief (and wise-ass internet forum comments) downtown Atlanta is a very safe place to stay.

if you're coming in via the airport, you might consider taking MARTA into downtown and staying at one of the hotels along Peachtree Street. that's only a short walk over to the dome, and closer to all the good restaurants.

There are plenty of place to go to 3-4 blocks north, south, and east of phillips arena... Georgia Dome is just on the other side to the west.

Click on the First Listing, A, and Search Nearby for what you want...There's a very good chance that you'll find it.

Been to Atlanta twice in the last 2 months and have nothing but good things to say about the place. Was there for about a total of 3 weeks, got to see and experience the city. Sometimes kind of bleary though...

BTW, go see Stone Mountain if you can. Precursor to Mt Rushmore just outside the city.

I agree. I feel safer walking around downtown Atl after dark than walking around downtown Tampa.
The Omni is always a safe bet for a good stay. Has a pretty good restaurant on the ground floor, and also a bunch of eateries (mmmm, donuts...) in the CNN part. Plus, it is right next to the Olympic park, which is very pleasant to walk about in.
