What tires is anyone running on your '92-'95 R100R? Very different wheel sizes than the earlier bikes, not sure whether the old standard tire choices apply.

I just put on a Metzler Marathon 880 rear tire....140/80/17...this was the best price I could find. see link

I prefer a tire that lasts a little longer over one with a sportier feel. I live on and travel many gravel roads so longevity is important in a tire for me. Hence the Marathon...
Front is a metzler laser...cant recall the size off hand....Both are tubeless and I installed a dyna beads this time to self balance the rear tire....
check advriderc.om thread "92-95 R100R Owners Chime in Please" its in the old school section
I posted this same tire question there....

I had Metzeler LaserTec's on my R100RS, bought them early this year and the rear was about 80% done at maybe 5000 miles. Pretty dissappointing, seems like tires are wearing out quicker than the old days rather than lasting longer. I know they work great and all; I may also switch to a touring compound at least on the rear, when my new Pirellis wear out on the new R100R...

What kind of riding do you do? Do you want higher mileage, better hard riding grip, do you ride a lot in the rain, etc.? I like the BT45s - a LOT - but they are not a high mileage tire compared to Metzeler 880's. The new Avon RoadRiders sound to be much like the BT45's but I haven't ridden them myself. You might be able to find some radials that would fit those rims - I'd have to look at the rim width and sizes, but radials make a big improvement in handling in my experience.

I thought if the bike didn't come with radials you couldn't run them - would be great to try some. I commute to work everyday beginning and ending with a nice twisty section of road less than a mile long. Then 17 miles of freeway each way in between.
I got about 7000 miles on the rear of a pair of LaserTecs, and was hoping to get more. Sport touring seems to be the genre that would give a compromise between handling and lasting. Anyway, before I started getting answers on this post I ordered some Pirelli sport touring tires so we'll see how they do. At the rate the last ones wore out, I'll probably get to try all of these options before too long:) Thanks..

Just had the German dealer replace both tires and they recommended the Metzler Lasertec.

It is pretty difficult to know what tire pressures to run with the more modern tires. I am not sure of this, BUT I believe that all the newer tires like BT-45, Avon Road Riders, and Pirelli Sport Demons are all designed to run 34+ psi where my bike's owners manual says 29-30 psi. This is supposed to have a big influence on tire mileage and this might be why your tire life is so short.

I have an older RT but I'm on my second pair of Avons. Good wear, good in rain, good traction.

No RT, RS or even /2 here but I do have an R100R and I run Bridgestone BT 45 tires with a higher pressure than the owners manual recommends.

I've got about 250 miles on my Pirelli Sport Demons and they feel fine. Time will tell how they last...

I have about 3500 miles on my rear Lazertec and it is already getting a squared off profile. I'm disappointed.
Next set will be Marathons.

My former R wore BT-45V's, which are available in R100R size while the traditional airhead sizes are covered by the H-rated version. I do not know if there are any other differences between the two.

Looks like I may be going back to Bridgestones soon!! My K75 is up for new tires soon so maybe I'll get them to use something other than the Lasetecs!
