Well my 5 year old 85 R80 BMW battery stopped holding a charge reliably so looking over the forum read reports & I bought the Odyssey. $143. For this princely sum I could have bought BMW. Anyway I am disappointed that it is not a direct replacement as it requires bending work on your cable connections to make it work. The bending is not so hard but I am concerned about the connection cracking there in the future as the metal is stretched past its yield point. Furthermore, the battery has to be turned so that it is not sitting on its base with a lid but rather on the joint between the lid and body. I know its a sealed battery and the joint is sealed, but just the same it is going to be bouncing and vibrating on that joint. . Next time I'll stick with "tried and true good old white and blue."

I just put an Odyssey PC680 into my '72 R60/5 SWB and it sits as it should and the posts are beefier that the old battery.
Sounds like you had a different experience. Did you cross check with another Odyssey dealer (Bob's BMW sells them now/again)? Maybe its not the correct model. :dunno

Talked to them and it seems they have an adapter ody-adapt for $5.95. Make sure you order it if you buy this battery. The man tells me it is ok to set on side. I suggested they add the adapter to the web page for the battery :banghead

Odyssey's web page states that that battery is placed on it's side in a lot of applications. The post adapter is a must have. Been very pleased with them on some of the bikes I have put them on.
Presently have the 680 in the R45. It was a snug fit, but works well. Only had it for a year, so we will see how the longevity is.
Will probably put the PC925L in my present R100RT when the Westco dies.

I put a PC925 into my 84 R100RT and had no problems. It's a little taller than the stocker, so the toolbox sits higher but the seat shmooshes everything down nicely and nothing seems untoward.
Having tried Odyssey batteries now (I replaced the stocker in my Harley Deuce with one too), I wouldn't use any other battery. YMMV.

Have had a pc680 in my R65 for about five years. Best battery I've ever owned.
Just put one in my R100RS.

Bought some copper and made the post adapters. Got it all plumbed up and lo and behold the BMW retaining frame screws are too short i.e. the battery is too high. Any suggestions besides wire ties for holding it in place?? This is going to be a great battery for my grass mower.

I installed a PC925 in my 85 R80RT last year and am quite happy. It does lay on its side, which seems fine. I had to shim the battery holder slightly, but my cables fit nicely, just used up some of the previous slack. The hold down straps and tool box adapted well to the slightly higher fit. I plan to get five seasons and then put it out to pasture in my 12V world.

I just did a full frame off restoration and powdercoating because previous owners let the regular battery overflow and removed the paint from the battery box frame and swingarm. Good thing the bike was wearing a POS corbin seat with a fiberglass seat pan or that would have been rusty also.
I Gladly bent the cable ends and set the Odyssey on its side to not have that problem again. The extra CCA's are a welcome addition also.
I have the PC680 in my R100/7, R100R, and my K75. I have had them for several years and never had a cranking problem. Still haven't put a charger on them. So why bother with the large battery if you don't have a lot of acessories.
