I own a 1971 R/75 /5. I came with a Wixom fairing that used ot be on the bike. I have no idea what materials I need for mounting nor the mounting instructions.

Doies anyone have a mounting diagram for this fairing or at least some good pics you can send me on how the fairing looks after it has been installed properly on an R75 or similar?

Cheers

Just did a search on yahoo, for wixom fairing bmw. A site come up on ebay with a '71 BMW with wixom fairing mounted. One of the pictures shows the back side of the fairing. U will notice that 4 metal straps attach the fairing. Two of the straps at the top are flat and attach at the top of the top triple tree. The lower 2 straps attach at the back side of the lower triple tree. They are shaped in a curve. I have mounted several in the past. Most lickly U will have to add a couple of additional mounts to the windshield. At speed the upper fairing and windshield will want to flex back, very disconserting. I allways liked the look of the Wixom Ranger fairing, but it covered up one of the most beautiful parts of the bike, the headlight bucket, with it's nostalgic speedo and tack. Also the fairing will have to be removed to service the headlight bulb and switches, some what of a pain in the butt. Good luck with your project.

Mount the fairing as shown, then ride a while. The flexing may not be as much on your bike as I have encountered. Just try it. If the flexing is a problem, Contact one of the universal aftermarket windshield companies, National Cycle, Memphis Shades, etc. Get one of their universal mounts and mount it to your windshield for some extra bracing. This should stop the flexing. Hope this helps.

I have a Wixom Ranger on my /2...flexing of the windshield is not an issue. There's a pretty decent curve in the glass, so it's very stiff. Mine has the two mounts to the top of the forks and two lower to the top of the shocks. The fairing itself is very solid and the glass doesn't bend at all.
