I have a friend coming over from the land of OZ with his GS for an extended tour of the US and Canada. He is having trouble finding insurance for his bike. He's got medical insurance but needs to find some liability coverage. So far we haven't had any luck. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Have you tried contacting the MOA office and talking with Ray Zimmerman. He may be able to direct you to someone at Markel Insurance, the one offering discounts to MOA members. He also may have some other ideas. Worth a shot.

Fernet (http://www.fernet.com/overseas_visitors.htm) does a nice job with my foreign guests. You can call them and ask questions, sort your policy options to length of coverage and he can do the rest online.
Progressive will cut him a policy also. At one time there were underwriting restrictions in certain states meaning you could not get coverage if you had an address there as a foreign visitor. This forced you to have to use an office elsewhere to get written. Some crazy policy that I hope doesn't exist anymore.
Another option http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/store/vendorinfo/mcexpress-us.pdf
Let him use your USA address for mailings if your state is crazy he could use my address.
:idea I just sorted my own insurance and I increased the medical benefit to 25,000 USD. This will cover any medical airlifting regardless how good your other insurances are. In my state they fly any motorcycle injury.
Additional insurance options: Spot (http://www.findmespot.com/en) has a nice search and rescue benefit covering up to 100,000 USD. Or have him purchase Medjet (http://www.medjetassist.com/) for additional insurance ( MOA discount). Much depends on his National health care coverage and Medjet will get him and/ or his bike back to you or home in the worse case scenario.
Where does he live in OZ ? I have friends there that toured the US who could help.
BTW I have an Aussie bike in my garage so its doable.
He is also welcomed to pass by here if he wants.
All the best

I don't think he can get MedJet, see below

Thanks to all for the info
Statdawg you link was the ticket. He's all set. Despite the fools at customs! Took forever to clear it.
If anyone is interested he's got a blog going and I'll post the link.
Cheers
