The speedometer error questions appearing here can be explained by the low-profile rear tire, which has a smaller outer diameter than a conventional tread. The speedo error works out to about 8 percent, which would fit with the reduced outer diameter. The differential ratio (typically 33:11) hasn't been changed, and the speedo runs off the front tire at a slightly different rate. Put oversize rear wheels on a car or truck and see what happens to the speedo, it's more pronounced. Trying to be helpful.

The size of the rear tire is not going to affect speedometer error on a bike which takes the read off the front wheel. It will affect the relationship between the tach and the speedo.
