Hello all - this summer I found myself again in eastern Oregon, and enjoyed every minute of it. However I was surprised at just how cool early mornings can be, even in summer - is this normal ? Among all the pine forests and some grasslands, is eastern Oregon a high desert ?

Horst in Victoria, BC.

Yes! In the rain shadow of the cascades, eastern Oregon is a dry place.

The next time you are in Easteern Oregon, you need to check out hyw 245 about 10 miles South of Baker City Ore. It has about 190 turns in about 12 miles. It is in the same ball park as the Deals Gap. Go ride.:clap :cat

Here in Eastern Oregon, it can be cool or even cold well into July. I have seen snow on the 4th of July a number of years. It does not stick, but it can come down.

Elevations typrically range from 3K to 4K and that can keep the temp down. Some days we can have a 50+ degree swing in temperatures. Wear layers!
