I have found an RT fairing to put on my 1983 R100. My Clymers has a muddy photo of where the part shown as "8 - Rear Mounting Bracket" fits. It is all muddy and I can't tell where the heck the bracket starts or finishes. Also, does the bike use just 1 or 2?

In Clymer's #8 Rear Mount is the cross bar between the lower, aft-most part of the fairing. Here's a picture with a red arrow pointing to it on my fairing-in-waiting.

That little gizzee in the center of the bar clips around the small frame tube that runs from the main backbone frame tube on the bike, down to the backside of the vertical tube holding the steering head bearings. Your starter relay is very close to it on the left side and you may need to remove a few things to get the clamp around the small frame tube.

The spider mounting hardware mounts with the widest legs up on the top part of the fairing, just underneath the windscreen. The smaller legs mount near the bottom, aft part of the storage compartment and through the #8 piece as well.

Clear as mud? I think I'll wait until after this weekends camping trip to do mine. Take lots of pictures, I will too.

Hope this helps.

OK, you should have the spider mount that attached to the head tube with 2 bolts and has 4 "arms" that stick out to the front. those go to the 4 mounting points in the upper fairing. then you should have 1 long mount that goes across from side to side, underneath the tank and has a bracket that attaches to the cross tube. It will attach to the under side of the fairing beneath the pockets. There are 2 sort of indents in the under side of the fairing that they go into and larger bolts go thru. The lowers also attach thru this.
Then there are some smaller angle brackets of stamped steel that attach to the bottom lowers to the frame.

You can see all of them on the microfiche online at: http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/MainDiagrams.asp?mospid=47888

The angle piece for the lower part of the fairing does NOT attach to the spider. If you can make those meet up, you got serious problems. :thumb

Oops, right. I had that sinking feeling after I looked at the diagram again this morning.
