I'm replacing the front master cylinder on a 93 K1100RS and I have a few questions. It looks like the grips have to come off. How do I take the grips off and save the grips for re-use. There are heated grips of course.

Any other hints?? Thanks..

The grip comes off with the throttle tube after pulling the wires for the heated grip through the handle bar. The connector for the wires is found under the fuel tank. Attach a stiff piece of wire to the terminals and leave it in the handlebar until you are ready to put the throttle tube back on.

I have worked on a lot of bikes. This job is a bitch. The connections to the grip can be reached by sliding the tank back after you pull one line and clamp it. I had lots of trouble getting the wires thru the bar after attaching a piece of safety wire. The wires running into the connector are attached with little bitty terminals that take a very small screewdriver to get out of the 4 wire connector. I used lots of dialectric grease pulling the wires. That seemed to work well. The pivot bolt for the brake lever is also attached with blue lock tite. It takes some heat to loosen it. Lucky the master was getting replaced because the master seal is probably toast. The handle bars also had to come loose to gain a better angle on the bar heater wires and the tugging involved. The grips and the heaters must come completely off the bar because the new master encircles the handle bar and it must slide on the end. I'm almost there..
