K75S Guages

Can anyone please let me know how to remove the plug on the back of the guages? I can reach the plug but it will not move. I need to remove it so I can have the odometer and trip meter repaired. Thanks!

There is a black cover held on by 1 phillips head on the back of the instrument pod.
Take that off, then lift off the 2 strip-connectors. Helps if the pod is off the bike.

If you are referring to the plugs on the outside of the instrument cluster, there are two of them under a black plastic cover that is held on with a screw in its center.

The instrument cluster mounting bolts (4) are usually not accessible without removing a part of the fairing. I usually remove the front (the part above the head light in front of the instrument cluster).

It's quite involved but here's a rough outline by memory:

Remove windscreen (4 screws) being careful not to tear the rubber gaskets between the screen and the body.

Under the gaskets remove ,I believe, 1 screw per side.

Remove front turn lenses (1 screw each)

Under the turn signals, in the upper front corners are 2 screws per side. Remove them.

On the very front center below the headlight is 1 screw. Remove.

Now the hard part. Looking in the turn indicator opening, deep (1-2") in the gap between the panel over the headlight and the side panel you will see an allen head bolt. With long allen wrench remove (1 per side).

Lift out headlight assembly and upper front fairing piece. Unplug headlight.

Now you have access to the back of the cluster.

Remove 4 allen head mounting bolts to separate cluster from bracket.

Roll cluster to expose plug cover. Remove cover screw and cover.

Rock each of the long white plugs end to end until off.

Send cluster out for repair or attempt it yourself.

Since this bike is a '92, it will have a small stainless socket head screw to retain the connector. This screw is captured by a clip inside the connector. After following 98lee's instructions, turn the screw out and it will pull the connector off the instrument

I didn't know that. It doesn't show on the fiche. Those damn "new" bikes are so confusing. :dunno
