:buds I would like to ask you vintage guys a couple questions, I just bought a 1970 50/5 while looking for parts on the internet Ifound vintage is 1969 or older. does this mean that after jan. my 70 will be considered vintage due to being 40 yrs old. Isaw all kinds of parts and accessories for vintage 50/5s but could find hardly any elsewhere for 1970 and up /5s. also, is the 1969 /5 and my 1970 /5 basicly the same partswise, or a completly different animal. thanks for putting up with a thought he was , vintage owner.

A 1969 /2 is way different than a 1970 /5. Well, the late model 1968 and 1969 R69US models had some similar features like the front forks, but don't really to find any common parts.
As for the term "vintage", it's a relative term determined by the people who set up the boards. On another forum that I participate in, there's Antique (1923-1945), Vintage (1948-1969), and Classic (1970-on).
One of the main reasons for the breakdown you see is to group bikes which have a similar design. The /2 was much different than the /5-on bikes. Eventually a K100LT will be "old enough" to be a vintage bike, but it has nothing in common with your bike.
So, for now, you're grouped with the Airheads because of the similar engine and bike design. That's where the bike will be for some time.
