Today my K1100 at the dealer for a brake fluid change.
But… the dealer tells me the front master cylinder is defective and needs to be replaced.
Very expansive, though, only a complete kit being available from BMW it seems.
Any comments?
Thanks.

p.s. The bike is a 1995 with 45000 miles. The rear master cylinder was changed in 2005. The front kit would cost more that twice the rear one.

It's over protective BS. Dealer HAS to protect themselves.
Go to the K1100OG site and learn to do it your self.
Beemer Bone yard sells the new cylinder rebuild kit. It has to be pretty bad to not be able to rebuild it. Cost about $65.00 in parts.
I did mine on my 93 K1100RS. Works oh so much better now.

They "misrepresented the truth".
From BMW parts microfiche:
20 32722332037 Repair Kit, Piston, Anodized (D=20MM) 1 $70.31
From Beemerboneyard:

Let's see, it worked fine before you brought it in for a fluid change and now it doesn't? I'll bet it is now leaking out near the lever. That would be because they "over-traveled" the lever during their bleeding process and cut the seal.:banghead And now they want to sell you a new master for $361.15 plus 2 hours more labor. Wow. What a deal!
I would :bolt
