www.rhinewest.com, plus the Remus exhaust.
It's cheaper than trading an older LT on a new '05
The chip by itself adds about 7hp. The chip/pipe combo adds about 13hp.
More info can be found at www.bmwlt.net - the K1200LT home on the internet

I always thought the LT had a nice top end rush, especially at 6,500 RPMs. Ideally I would like to have 100 tq/100Hp, the torque would be more useful in everyday riding especially if you can get it to kick-in around 2-3K rpms. Few people have tried diffrent Cams with a chip and had good results...:idea

Pardon me, but I really do question the need for more power from the K1200LT. My 04 LTC routinely runs down the road at speeds well in excess of the legal limits with two persons on board and a full load of luggage and camping gear, and still delivers close to 50 MPG. What more can you ask for?
There ain't no such thing as a free lunch. If you start messing around with computer chips and aftermarket performance accessories, you're going to end up spending a lot of money for a minor improvement in performance, but you will loose in fuel economy and bottom end.
If you want to go fast, get a Hayabusa. If you want everyone to look at you, buy a bright yellow Harley with loud pipes. If you want to tour in style and comfort, ride a BMW K1200LT.

my curiosity always has me reaching out there for more, and what i've learned is that your right Jetdoc, the bike is tuned to a tee from the factory and there isn't much more that I really need from this bike over what it currenty does, was just putting the feelers out there learning more about this bike, and what possibileties there is for modifications, it would be nice to have alittle more torque at lower rpms pulling hills, the top speed it ok at 130mph but its a stretch to see 135 which i was not going to try past 135 for i only have 8000 miles on this bike, i hope the oil that is passing by the rings upon full throttle will stop once the rings arte seated....matthew

I saw three WSP on that seriously empty stretch of highway between Ione and Newport last Tuesday morning. Buy all the hp you want, because someone's gotta fill up the quota basket for your highway patrol. I already got my share in Washington state in the 80s..... :D

Hey Unalli and road carve. Right on. I have never had a bike I did not try to get more out of.
check this turbo for the K1200LT, (keep it at 275HP so the engine will last) page from the same people. I never thought I would see forged pistons for a K1200LT. I only have $9K in my bike so I might take the plunge. what fun twisting the torque on a grunt motor. I had the harley at 115KP/105 torque. Just think how much fun 135 or so would be on the LT. As for a ticket I will probably see one without the add-ons. For me hopping up motors is not about high speed but the in-your-shorts feeling creating the torque.

Actually since ive hit 12,000 miles my bike runs better than ever, maybe more rpms would actualy be cool.

i don't have a k1200lt, but i have added a k&n air filter, lazer pipe and chip to my r1100rt. there is an appreciable amount of extra power and amazingly my gas mileage has improved over the years. my bike now has a little under 76k miles on it. i guess i've always been a gear head, hot rodded in the late 60's and early 70's. went to racing bikes, so having a sweeter riding and sounding bike has always been a joy to me. the lazer set up is not too loud and it's the same setup that the randy mimola 1100s uses. i'm sure someone makes a pipe, chip combo for the k-bikes. remember more air in, more fuel in and make sure the engine is tuned right, any one of these things missing and your not getting full performance. too many people put on a pipe and figure it is going to make more hp, not so. :thumb

You may want to see if you can find *anyone* who has successfully purchased, received and installed this kit.......

DynoJet Research < www.powercommander.com > will be releasing their new Power Commander PCIII to fit most fuel injected BMWs in January. This system is a much more effective mod than the RhineWest chip as it can be fine-tuned for your individual motorcycle and accessories. A good deal for around $500.

This would appear to need dyno access to custom tune the bike. If so, that would add a significant amount of cost over and above the purchase price. And there is no indication of what specific performance figures the item produces (no power or torque curve data). Interesting, but I'd need a lot more answers.
Meanwhile, my Rhinewest chip just keeps delivering.

My experience with Power Commander on other motorcycles is that you buy the system already set up with a computer map for a specific make and model of motorcycle. You do not need a dyno to install the system and will see a significant performance improvement right out of the box.
If you do want to play with the system, you have the option of fine tuning it to your individual motor, but it's not required. This is an option that you don't have with RhineWest.

roadcrave - Save your pennies and wait for the release of the PCIII (http://www.powercommander.com/bmwpc.shtml). That mod is going to do more for the LT than all the others currently available COMBINED! Show me a modern road race bike, and I'll show you a power commander under the seat.
As for the Rhinewest chip...I'm not a fan. A list of reasons. 1 - I only know of one LT owner that dyno'ed his bike before and after the mod. ZERO HP gain. 2 - It's NOT customizable. (We do all live at different altitudes, don't we?) 3 - It's expensive ($400 for a $3 EPROM!), and it's not exactly easy to install. ("easy" is relative, I know.) 4 - Some guys use it with stock pipes, while others use it with the Remus, and so on. I almost don't understand how this miracle chip knows just what to map and how! :dunno Perhaps....I need more faith. :p The list goes on... But, I'll stop boring you for now.
If you've already purchased the Rhinewest chip....er...can we agree to disagree and leave it at that? :D

after 40 years of chasing HP & riding HD's, GoldWings, Hot Rod Honda Valkerys - i just bought a 750 - What!!!! a 750cc!!!!!! - maybe it's my age? or maybe it's ???? but i'm very pleased with the K75RT - this will be the first bike in years I haven't spent thousands of dollars on chrome and 6x6 exhaust systems - spent many mid night hours engraving on the bike's - but not this one - for some reason i am very pleased the way it is - i think i will buy a costly little Uni-Go trailer & maybe some bag liners but thats about it - tell me i'm not getting old or is more of a BMW Mind-Set?
