I decided to get out of the house this Memorial Day as I had been working hard all weekend around the house. My wife decided not to accompany me so I buzzed away on my 1995 R1100R. I rode over to the VFW to see if anything was happening there (everyone was at the new Veteran's Cemetary so I missed that. I got frustrated and decided to go home (30 miles away by that time). "Racing" around the Abilene, Texas loop I topped an overpass and saw a fellow rider waving for anyone to stop. I stopped and found out that he had a flat on his rear tire and didn't have a cell phone to call for help. My crappy phone's network was totally busy so I told him I would be right back as my CMA chapter was having a BBQ and there may be someone there to help. CMA (Christian Motorcyclist Association). I finally found it as I wasn't really going there to begin with and one of the other members followed me in his truck to help the guy out. When we arrived there was the city firemarshall sitting there waiting on "this guy that said he would be back with help". Turns out the biker was from an "outlaw" club and was glad someone stopped. While this was all happening there were about 100 bikes go by and all they did was wave. It just happened that the fire marshal is the president of our chapter. We found out that some of his brothers were in town for the Veteran's Ceremony and were on their way and the president of his Chapter was on his way with a trailer. It turned into a pretty good day up until I was backing away watching the traffic pass at 70 MPH and backed into my bike, knocking it over. Yes, cool points lost!!

Hopefully the little bit of bad luck won't prevent you from helping in the future. You did a good thing and saved the guy even more grief no doubt.

Always help a fellow rider...never know when you'll be the one on the side of the road looking for assistance. Been on both sides of that coin!
