I have a 2003 LT 1200. It has a radio/cd in the front console. For a year or better, some times the sound quits, and display goes blank. I could tap or bang on radio and it would work again for months, till one day it would do it again. Recently, it quit altogether. Comes on but no sound. So my problem is-------

I contacted Beckerautosound.com to get a new board for radio. They say none available till June or July 2009. So I pulled fuse for radio, so no harm can come. Something in the radio is still killing my battery in about 2 days. Every time I hook up battery charger to battery, you can hear it coming thru the speakers in the bike. I guess I'm gonna have to take all the plastic offbike for the tenth time to unplug all connections to the radio. This is really bumming me out, all this is making my Beemer not reliable, right before the Rally trip.

Does anybody out there have a radio/cd available at a reasonable price?

And has anyone else experienced these problems? :violin

I've suffered with the dreaded bad radio almost since I got my LT in April of 2005.

Did you disconnect the battery altogether? That will "reset" the radio and should clear the problem.

If not, go to fleabay. You can usually find a cassette deck radio for under $200. I have one as a back up. It will fit even if you have the CD deck.

It could also be the controller. Sometime that will short and cause a powerdrain. I know that does not sound right, but I've replaced both the radio and the controller and my drain disappeared. I thought it was the Baher but I really think it was the radio controller.

Good Luck!
