I've had my bike for sale for a while now, and had a potential buyer pay for an inspection at my local dealer. The inspection came back pretty good, bike is in excellent condition, however they noted the oil pump was leaking. They quoted 5 hours of labor to change the seal or pump if it needs it. This sounds long to me. It is also more of a seep than a leak, there is no oil on the inside of the fairing.

As far as I could tell w/ my service manuals, they would only need to remove the fairing and drain the oil and radiator to do this. Am I wrong? They of course also recomended changing all fluids and told my potential buyer that with ten hours of labor, plus parts that it would be good to go anywhere. Well in light of their recomendations, the potential buyer isn't too sure now, so....

Is 5 hours excessive for this job and is an additional 5 hours excessive to change engine, diff., tranny and brake fluid.

I can change engine, transmission, final drive and brake fluid in less than 1.5 hours - cleaning stuff as I go - and taking it easy.

They might of quoted outrageously high because they don't want to deal with your Pichler fairing. Five hours for the pump and five for the fluid change is ridiculous. You probably don't need the pump anyway.

Take the fairing off, clean the engine (simple green and a brush and a little water work well). Change the fluids yourself. (maybe forgo the brake fluid change if that seems beyond your expertise). Put the fairing back on and ride it a hundred miles. Then you will know how much it REALLY leaks and you can tell the next (or even the current) prospective buyer that these things have been addressed.

Don't worry, another buyer will come along. That fairing is VERY nice looking.:thumb

Well, their doom and gloom was enough to drive off my buyer. Oh well, I'll take care of the fluids and see if any leak develops now that I cleaned that up.:doh
