I will be leaving out for Baton Rouge to meet up with a buddy on July 10. Will be in N Carolina for a couple days to do some riding and get to Johnson Tn. Wed or Thursday. Will be leaving from Clute Tx. That is south of Houston for you Yankees.

Looks like me and a friend are going to leave Dallas on Monday morning and just hook it on through Memphis on I-30 the first day. We've done a number of weekend Arkansas rides so thought we would bypass it to ride new roads on our vacation. We're trying a northern route since I rode a southern route on Hwy 64 in Tennessee a few years ago. Hwy 64 is a very nice road by the way and can get you over to the Cherohola Skyway/ Deals Gap area more directly.
The map shows a tentative route on roads across the north which we have no idea about, but how bad can it be.

Not going, but I have a route I would recommend if you guys from around San Antonio are interested. I traveled to Western NC a couple of years back by this route, and it is very nice. I took 21 out of San Marcos, all the way through Texas and into Louisiana (El Camino Real) with a sidebar on the OSR around Bryan/College Station. Went on through Louisiana via Nachitoches to Natchez, Miss. Took the Natchez Trace North to Northern Alabama, then over through Muscle Shoals to Chattanooga, Tn. From there, there are numberous routes. As has been stated, 64 to the Cherohala Skyway is a great ride into NC, then you could go North through Deal's Gap back to TN and Johnson City. Just a thought. Have a great ride. :D
