I am going to be doing my first spline lube on my new K75RT, I understand that
the lube to use is Honda Moly paste, Honda part #08734-0001. Some say to use
it straight out of the tube, others say to mix it 50-50 with an EP rated grease.
Any comments on your experience of using it straight or mixing it?
What a great forum this is, have gotten a world of good information in just
the few weeks i've been a member of BMWMOA, Thanks to all of you that take
the time to answer questions.

Do a search on spline and Glaves.
Paul Glaves has gotten over 1 million miles out of his K bikes.

The following is a response Paul Glaves gave someone asking a similar question:
Honda Moly 60 is OK, but 60% moly is drier than desirable and has less anti-corrosive characteristics than I personally like. I mix it 50-50 with Wurth 3000 sticky green grease and the results are outstanding.
Sources of good moly paste products similar to the Honda paste are www.tsmoly.com and www.guarddogmoly.com.

Thank you for the links to the other similar products to the Honda Lube. I guess
my next question would be does anyone know where to get the Wurth Sticky
green grease or is there a more commom auto parts store grease that would
work just as well? Thanks again.

My Clymer guide says that on a K bike it is not as neccesary to frequently lube the splines. Basically : If the clutch is working smoothly, skip it. It says that the R bikes needed to be more regular about it. It also says it is a complicated procedure on the K, involving removal of the transmission.
I want to be careful and treat my 109,000 mile baby well. I don't want trouble, but I don't want to wrench when I could be riding!
Any input out there?

At 109,000 miles, unless your bike has had the clutch splines lubed in the past 50,000 or so, it needs it. Yes, difficult downshifting is a good warning sign, and yes, these splines are better than the Airhead splines were, but they still need to be cleaned and lubed periodically. I say every 40K to 50K. Some last longer and still have decent lube. Some need it desperately. The best thing is to open it up and find everything just fine. Clean and relube and you have avoided the wear you get waiting until it really needs it badly.

The spline that DOES need to be done regularly is the driveshaft. I am doing mine at 7-10000 miles due to wear that was there at 30000 miles when I bought the bike.
I have been using straight Honda MOLY60, but will switch to the mixture Paul Glaves Recommends.
