I dropped my bike and the anonymous book is still at the crash scene. I just got out of hospital with 3 broken ribs. Could use some help or a shoulder to cry on. I'm in the Best Western: 540-743-2917 Room 102

Thanks,

Holly

Hey Everybody,

Just talked to Holly. She is doing good. but could use some local help. The correct phone number for the Bestwestern is (540)743-6511. I gave her some member numbers from Harrisonburg and Culpeper. If there are any folks closer to Luray (25 miles South for Front Royal, VA) give her a call...she will appreciate it.

Thanks, guys, especially Chuck Manley who figured out I had put down the fax instead of the phone number and tracked me down with some anonymous listings. I'm doing ok. Pretty funny watching me trying to get out of bed this morning--took about 10 minutes. I haven't managed to zip up my boots yet. Shoes are on the bike, so I'm clomping around in loose boots.

I think the bike will be ok. Scraped cylinder, headlight glass gone, mirrors smashed but I know she starts because someone checked that for me right before the ambulance carted me off. An anonymous contact is trying to locate the bike for me. Small towns and everything shuts down for the weekend. It is apparently in Sperryville which is the other side of the mountain.

Medjet will take the bike back, but not me since I'm not an in-patient. So I'm desperately trying to rent a car. Not easy as there is no rental agency in Luray. Not much here except the hospital and some caverns. By the time they let me out of the hospital, the pharmacy was closed so no prescription meds. I found a gas station convenience store which had some Tylenol. Managing well enough on that so I'll probably skip the hard stuff.

Holly, Sorry to hear about your mishap. There's an Enterprise Rental Car in Luray, from what I can see on Google at 201 Tannery Rd, Luray, VA‎ - (540) 743-1477. (With 3 busted ribs, are you sure you're able to drive?)

I don't know anyone in Western VA, but hope things work out for you. If you need to waylay in NYC, (for any reason) don't hesitate to contact me.

I'm just checking out of the hotel. The Anonymous member from Culpepper is picking me up and we have an appointment to see the bike at 1. I'll stay with them tonight and then rent a car and head home.

Found the only heathen store owner in town and bought some crocs so I'm finally out of the boots.

Thanks for all the calls and help!

Hi! Holly! Also sorry to hear about the oops, glad it wasn't more serious. I probably don't need to tell you that coughing, sneezing, and laughing are to be avoided for a while. BTDT Wishing I (and a few others) was closer to help out, but that's how things go. See you down the road. Heal well!

Just got off the phone with Holly who will be traveling back home to Toronto via Amtrak (she can't drive because of her broken ribs and she can't fly because she left her passport at home in Canada).

She is departing Fredericksburg, VA and will be arriving here at Penn Station, New York at 9:00 p.m. tonight. Her connection to Toronto departs tomorrow morning @ 6:00 a.m.

My wife and I will pick her up at the train station and she'll stay overnight with us until it's time for her to return to Penn Station for her outbound train home.

She says she's still in a lot of pain but is enduring. She seems to be in fairly good spirits despite it all and claims she will see us all at the National in Johnson City this Summer.

Thanks for the update, Tessler!

I talked to her a few times yesterday and told her to call if she couldn't get in touch with you. I would have met her in Wilmington and sent her on from there. I'm glad she was able to get some help and begin her travels north.

Tessler, you're a prince! Glad to see Holly getting some much needed help and TLC!
Holly, best wishes. Those ribs take a long time to heal. Let us know when you arrive home and what arrangements you're making for the bike.

Aw shucks, Dan. :) I'd do the same for any of my fellow MOAers who'd broken 3 ribs and needed a safe place to stay and escort from and to the train station.

Put Holly on the 7:15 to Toronto this morning. She'll be back home by about 10 p.m. tonight. What a trip for her...

You feel better soon.

Thanks everyone. I just got in after a long day on Amtrak. Special thanks to Bill in Culpeper, VA who took in both me and my bike and is mailing my gear to me and to Jon Tessler. Jon really is a prince. He got up at 5 this morning to get me on the train home.

The bike will be brought back by Medjet. One way rental cars to Canada are ridiculously expensive and the train was less stressful. Legally I could have flown with my Nexus card, but try explaining that to the people at the airport! It wasn't going to happen.

Thanks to Chuck, Tracy, Statdawg and everyone else who offered help. See you in TN.

I owe so many people a beer now, I might just be the beer tent's best customer!

Holly,

I'm glad the train worked out for you and happy to hear you are home safe after quite a trip! Didn't you say the purpose of the trip was to rebuild confidence?!?!? Sort of ironic!

Heal quickly so we all see you in TN! :heart

Yup, pretty funny Tracy. Unfortunately, I can't laugh right now.

Here is the pic of the where I touched down:

So is the cycle home w/ you now? And I am a little couroius how everything went down (no pun intended). I've dropped my LT loading it on a trailer and once in the driveway when I thought the side stand was down, it wasn't and down it went.

I like to learn as not to make the same mistake myself. I've really been paying attention to the tar strips in the road after hearing from this site of someone going down last summer. Maybe you don't want to share and that's ok, just asking.

Not entirely sure what happened, but here are the best guesses. Very tight steep uphill left hander. I didn't feel I was leaning excessively but touched down. I righted the bike but still had the rest of the corner and a bad wobble to contend with and hit the right shoulder, dropping the bike onto its left side where is spun around on the head facing downhill as it stopped. I thought I had misjudged the camber, but Bill who answered the anonymous call is just as convinced that one of the strong erratic gusts of wind they were experiencing that day pushed me over. It is a possibility as the corner was somewhat clearer of trees and the gusts were strong. It isn't a large bike and had been pushed around in the lane a bit on the ride down. Or maybe I just screwed up. Who knows.

Hi Holly, sorry to hear of your accident. As soon as you can, watch funny movies. The Dr said he had never seen broken ribs heal so fast.
Take care.

Tessler, You rock!

Good idea, Roy. I'll dig out the Monty Python stash. Cha-cha-cha in The Secret Policeman's Other Ball breaks me up every time.

I said "when you can." That is important. A week after 6 of mine were broke, I was watching a comedy, and was laughing and crying at the same time. I had to hobble out of the room with my cane and sit in the dining room for almost 15 minutes until I recovered. :ha

I rode that area about this time of year in 2006. There were certainly areas where I was blown across the road and I'm a big bloke on a GSA, fully loaded.
And, Life of Brian by the way, although Holy Grail has it's moments too.

Just ordered my new helmet. Nolan 103. I was wearing a 102 when I crashed and it is the most comfortable helmet I have ever had. Scraped up the front quite a bit, but the chinbar latch held nicely, so I'm feeling confident about getting the same brand again. I'll pick it up as soon as I can drive. (Standard shift cars are hard to drive with only one hand.)

Sounds great! And the 102 did it's job! Glad to know you're back home safe and sound :) How are you feeling today?

Holly

Thanks, Jon, I'm feeling much better today. I haven't popped a single pill all day. I'll still take the Tylenol pm at night, but the sooner I can get off the painkillers the better.

Yup, the helmet and all the gear did its job beautifully. It was a good reminder that riding ATGATT is the only way to go.

Like the rest of us, I'm glad to hear you're ok.

I seem to have hit mostly the rib cage and my left arm. Don't think I banged the boots at all. At any rate, they held up and my feet are fine. I agree, good sturdy boots are essential. I hope they come home soon. I have a mesh suit I can wear until the regular suit gets shipped back and have ordered the helmet, plus I have extra pairs of gloves, but those are my only pair of boots so I need them to ride again. Not that I'll be riding all that soon. I'm going to have to cage it to Bench Mark Works open house next weekend. sigh.
