This morning on my way to work on Hwy 17, a CHP on a BMW coming in the opposite direction gave me The Wave. That's cool. I waved back. From my past experience most Bike Cops don't wave at all and just look straight ahead.

The ONLY time a motorcycle cop has ever waved at me, it was seventeen degrees (F) on a January day in Nashville, Tennessee.

Apparently cops like me. In Spokane while loading a lot of beer onto the RT, I got a wave from the passing motorcop. In Nashville, Indiana, I got a wave from the cop, in Indianapolis I got a wave from the cop, in Toledo, OH I got a wave from the cop.

Then again, maybe it is my helmet?

the reason cops are waving to you is NOT because they like you. They are simply letting you know that they are keeping an eye on you and your alien headgear. (hee-hee)
We don't put up with that kinda nonsense in OUR town.

Indiana bike cops tend to be pretty cool. I usually can get a wave out of them. Also, a lot of guys on the Indianapolis police force ride, so sometimes you can get a break. I got pulled over one time on 465 doing about 73 in a construction zone, and the first thing the officer (in a car) asked was what year my bike was. I knew that I was going to be okay after that. :)

Had the same thing happen the other day traveling on 84 near Livermore. I tend to wave at everyone, unless I'm using my left hand that is. ;) Waved at an approaching moto and got a wave back. Saw as he passed that he was a CHP on a Police RT.

Well.... I like your helmet, Brad. It screams individuality. You gotta respect that. The cops are probably just jealous they don't have something so spectacular!

In the town in which I live in Northern Wisconsin there are two Harley Davidson’s that are used as police bikes. And being from WI I guess I can understand why they choose to ride that brand. I ride quite often in my small town and see them out occasionally on an extremely nice day. I am the kind of rider that will acknowledge every rider, even the officers on cycles in my town. However, I would never get a wave, nod, polite finger lift, nor any response from them in return. In my travels I have come across other officers on cycles and they have had always the same response toward me…. None
However, on the way to Spokane while traveling with a few friends I had a neat experience. We came along an Idaho State Trooper on a BMW police bike. That was my first encounter of a Motorcycle Cop giving a wave. Knowing my luck…I am sure he was only waving at Rob Nye who was ridding lead and not myself who was ridding drag. Either way, I was impressed.
Thanks Rob…. That sure made my day

So wave away folks. Let them know you care :D

Not sure if this is the same everywhere but most M/C cops I know don't really ride much. When I did it I sold my Guzzi and my BMW. I had a KLR for a short time and then sold that. I found 40 hrs a week was enough. I certainly did not want to commute on 2 wheels and rarely rode on my days off. But, I did ride at work all the time. The two cops that ride for my dept now don't even own bikes anymore. The actually got rid of them before they got the assignment. They didn't do a lot of riding off-duty before and on-duty now it's only a few hours on really nice days. Lame!
